JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Main has its dual function. Students opting to take admission in the Engineering colleges should take this exam as a Merit Exam and should try to get higher ranks for getting admission in top engineering colleges. While students opting to get admission in the IITs should take this exam as a qualifying exam for appearing in the Advanced Test. Advanced test will be conducted by the independent bodies of IITs.
Only 1,50,000 top scorers in the JEE Main exam will be eligible for appearing in the Advanced test. Students opting to take admission in NIT and IIIT should try to get better ranks in JEE Main exam because admission in those colleges will take place based on obtained rank in this exam.
