Students are better here in Laos
Lao students have a better understanding of Basic English language compared to its neighboring countries like Thailand, Cambodia or Myanmar (personal experience). If you speak to Lao students, they try their best to reply to your queries. This also makes traveling in Laos more comfortable as you can go around without much difficulty language barrier. Other Asian nationalities I have met and taught just turn their back and leave you. The reason for this might lie on the limited understanding of the English language.
Lao students can adjust their selves easily to other nationalities. Lao can befriend the teacher or other people from a different race in just a short time. This makes teaching English in Laos easier. For example, they easily cooperate with classroom activities given them thus they are easy to teach and manage.
The salary is a bit higher
Although, the salary might not be that luxurious compared to what the Western teachers receive, the pay is just right to experience not only a comfortable life in Asia but also makes traveling in Laos affordable. Most teachers are paid in dollars where in the exchange rate is a bit better for Asians compared to other currencies. Teachers usually get a minimum of $500 a month but could earn more with part time teaching job. For Westerners, they receive about two to three times higher. I am sure this makes everyone’s teaching English in Laos more exciting!
There is not much problem for a visa
If you enter Laos, they will give you a 30 days visa. This visa is renewable for several times. You just get out of the country before it expires. I have known several teachers teaching English in Laos going in and out of the country or traveling in Laos without much problem with the immigration. This is as long as you do not violate any of the country’s important culture as you do your teaching and travelling in Laos.
Groovy isn’t it! Actually teaching English in Laos gives you an experience you will never regret. Just get in the country and the rest would be history.
